"Curb it!" Garbage Guidelines
Boise's new automated trash and recycling program is off and "rolling" with great success! Residential solid waste service is mandatory in Boise and includes weekly trash collection. Basic service includes a contractor-provided trash cart (95-, 64- or 48 gallons).
Trash Guidelines
- All trash must be placed in a contractor-provided cart.
- Trash must be set-out by 7:00 a.m.
- Bags of trash left at the curb will no longer be accepted unless placed inside your cart.
- Yard waste must be placed in your cart or composted at home.
- Trash cart lids must be closed and trash contained insode the cart.
- Do not pack the cart so tightly that trash becomes stuck and will not empty.
- Do not place hot ashes in your cart or set the cart near sources of heat (furnace, fireplace, grill).
- Needles, sharps, and syringes must be placed inside a hard plastic or metal container for disposal in your trash cart.
- Do not place hazardous waste inside your trash cart.
- Bundles of limbs and branches must have an Overflow Sticker, be cut and tied into 4 foot (or shorter) bundles, and weigh less than 60 lbs.
- Residents will be able to set out extra trash in standard 20- to 35-gallon trash cans by using Overflow Stickers.
- Trash carts must be removed from the curb within 24 hours of service.

Cart Placement

Overflow Stickers
In the event that you have more trash than will fit in your cart, you can set out your old trash cans if you affix City-provided Overflow Stickers to them. Overflow Stickers will only work on trash cans and tied bundles of branches. Bags of trash set out at the curb will not be collected. Each sticker allows for a single use and will be removed at the time of pick-up.
The City will provide each household with five free Overflow Sticker per year. Extras stickers may be purchased for $1 each, with a minimum of $5 per order. To purchase additional stickers, call Boise City Utility Billing at (208) 384-3735.
Large Item Collection
Large items will be collected throughout the year upon customer request. Large items must be placed at the curb or in the alley for pick-up. These items include:
To arrange for a large item pick-up call Allied Waste at (208) 345-1266.
Residential Cleanup Weeks
Each year, the City offers two weeks of overflow trash collection services: the first full week after Christmas and the last full week of April. This allows residents to dispose of larger amounts of waste typically generated during the winter holidays and spring clean-up. Residents can set out as much trash as they want but all waste must be contained in wheeled carts or 20-35-gallon trash cans. Overflow Stickers are not needed.
Carry-Out Service
Would you like to have your trash and recycling collected from your property rather than from the curb or alley? If so, you may want to sign-up for carry-out service.:
Allied Waste Staff will retrieve, empty, and return the carts for either regular or premium carry-out services. Carts cannot be inside structures or behind fences. Allied Waste will not retrieve carts where animals are present.
Customers requesting this special service must sign a carry-out agreement. There is an additional charge for carry-out services. For more information, call Boise City Utility Billing at (208) 384-3735.
