"Curb It!" Recycling...No Sort. No Sweat.
The City of Boise's blue (no-sort!) recycling carts make recycling easier than ever. Simply toss all of your recyclables into your blue cart. Recycling is included in Boise's residential solid waste service. Every household that signs up for service is provided with a blue recycling cart. Non-recyclers pay $4 more per month than recyclers. To sign up for recycling service, call Allied Waste Services at (208) 345-1266, Boise City Utility Billing at (208) 384-3735, or order one online.
Recycling Collection Schedule
Recycling is collected EVERY OTHER WEEK, Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on the same day as your trash. Place your blue cart at the curb or in the alley at least 3 feet from your garbage cart.

Blue Cart Recycling:
Items Accepted:
- Paper: newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, white or pastel ledger, cereal, beverage and frozen food boxes, paper bags, envelopes, computer paper, brochures, greeting cards and wrapping paper without foil, construction paper and phone books.
- Aluminum & Steel (Tin): rinsed soda cans, soup cans, pie pans, aluminum foil, uncoated wire hangars, pie tins, empty aerosol cans. Labels may remain on the cans.
- Plastics: household plastics with a number 1 - 7 on the bottom (maximum size:3 gallons). Labels may remain on containers. Smash and flatten plastics, lids may be recycled. NO plastic bags, motor oil jugs, and pesticide containers.
- Corrugated Cardboard: flatten or cut boxes so they fit completely inside the recycling cart.
Non-Recyclables:
- Paper plates, cups, or plastic utensils
- paper towels, napkins, tissues, diapers, or toilet paper
- Styrofoam/Packaging
- Plastic grocery bags, garbage bags, plastic wrap or film
- Plastics labeled "PLA"
- Milk or juice cartons (waxed paper)
- Food-contaminated containers (including pizza boxes)
- Foil-lined items like cookie and chip bags
- Cardboard milk and juice cartons
- Yard waste (please compost or throw in trash cart)
- GLASS is not collected curbside. Glass may be recycled at area recycling centers or drop sites.

Leaf Recycling : Recycle the Fall
Boise City and Allied Waste Services provide annual leaf collection during the City's "Recycle the Fall" program each November. "Recycle the Fall" is a city-wide, curbside leaf collection program designed to keep yard waste out of the landfill. Leaves, flowers, plants and grass set out in paper leaf bags are collected and ground for reuse.
Every fall the Public Works Department provides Boise households with coupons for compostable paper leaf bags. These coupons can be redeemed at participating retailers. The bags can be set out at no extra charge (no Overflow Stickers needed!) during the curbside collection period.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Christmas trees will by picked up by Allied Waste during the first two weeks after Christmas. Christmas trees set out for collection must be free of lights, ornaments, tinsel, and stands. They must be cut to 4-ft. lengths or smaller. Flocked trees and wreaths are not accepted.
Used Motor-Oil & Appliance Recycling:
Boise residents can recycle up to 2 gallons of used motor oil, per household, per week. DO NOT mix oil with other fluids like gasoline or antifreeze. Use a non-returnable, transparent plastic container. Label the containers "Used Motor Oil" and place them next to (not inside) your carts on your next service day.
Boise residents also have the opportunity to recycle their household appliances "curbside" at no additional charge. Freon, if present, is safely removed before appliances are recycled. Call Allied Waste Services at 345-1266 to schedule a pick up. Appliances must be outside and visible to the driver.
