Garbage Collection Guidelines
Fewer tons should be heading to the landfill with the addition of the no-sort recycling carts!
Standard trash service in Garden City includes a 95-gallon wheeled trash cart and recycling cart from Allied Waste.
Garbage is collected once a week and recycling is collected Every-Other-Week.
Carry-out service is available for an additional fee.
Use the Right Containers
Trash must be in a container to keep odors in and animals out. Closed containers will prevent tampering by pets, minimize odors, and block rainwater.
Collection Requirements
- Trash and recycling must be set out by 7:00 am.
- Trash and recycling carts must be removed from the curb within 24 hours.
- Hazardous materials such as fluorescent light tubes, paint or vehicle batteries are not collected curbside. See information included in this website for proper disposal of household hazardous materials.
- Make sure drivers have safe and clear access to containers.
- Trash containers must be free from obstructions such as mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, or utility poles.
- Do not block sidewalks with trashcans, wheeled carts or recycling bins.
- Do not overload containers or pack them so tightly that contents are difficult to remove.
- Place wheeled carts at the curb with lid hinges pointing toward the house.
- Trees and branches must be cut to less than 4' in length, bundled, and placed next to your garbage on your regular collection day.
Extra Summer Trash or Yard Waste? Read on...
Did you know that for $8.91 Allied Waste will come by your house and pick up extra ½ cubic yard of trash? This volume is equivalent to ½ of a small pick-up truck bed. For $17.59 Allied Waste will pick up 1 cubic yard (equivalent to a full small pick-up truck bed). If you need extra service and don't want to drive to the landfill, call Garden City at 472-2930 to schedule a collection. Materials should be tied in bundles less than 4' in length (weighing less than 60 pounds each), or in secure containers that can be hand-thrown into the back of a truck. Charges will appear on your next bill. Bulky waste collection services are the solution to keeping your yard and home tidy without renting an extra cart or self-hauling unwanted materials to the landfill.
